Privacy policy

Hifz Daily helps you memorise and revise the Quran. Hifz Maktab lets hifz schools and teachers follow their students’ Hifz Daily. Both, and this website at hifz.day, are run by Qaswa Ventures in Perth, Western Australia (“we”, “us”).
Your hifz is personal, and we treat it that way. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and what you can ask of us. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
The short version
- We collect what Hifz Daily needs to plan and keep your hifz: your account, your plan and what you’ve memorised and revised.
- When you recite to Hifzy, your voice is checked live and never recorded or stored. We keep the result.
- No ads, no tracking across other sites, and we never sell your information.
- If you join a madrasah’s class, your teachers there can see your hifz.
- Children’s information is never used for advertising, never sold, and never used to train AI in a way that identifies them.
- You can ask us for a copy of your information, or ask us to delete it, at any time.

What we collect
When you register interest
Your name, email, who’s memorising (you, your children or your students) and anything you choose to tell us. For a madrasah, also its name, your role and roughly how many students memorise with you.
Your account
Your email, your name, and a password (stored only in a scrambled form we can’t read).
Your hifz
The information Hifz Daily runs on:
- your plan: what you’re memorising, your pace, your memorisation days and your revision load;
- what you’ve memorised, both before you started and in the app, and whether each part is a Sapling, Nurturing or Rooted;
- what you revise each day, how you rate it, your Wird rings, your streak and when you did each of these;
- your settings, Vocab progress, and the invites you send to friends.
Your approximate location (optional)
If you allow it, the app saves where you are, rounded to about 10 km, and your time zone. We use it only to time reminders around salah. You can say no, and reminders still come at set times.
Notifications and emails
If you turn on notifications, we keep the address your browser gives us for sending them. For emails, we keep your time zone, whether you’ve turned emails off, and a record of which emails we’ve sent you.
On your device
Hifz Daily saves a copy of your plan on your phone, tablet or computer so it works offline for up to three days. This stays on your device and syncs with your account when you’re back online.
What we don’t collect
We don’t use analytics or advertising trackers, and we don’t follow you around other websites.
Hifzy and your voice
Hifzy is in beta. When you tap Start, your microphone is streamed live to our recitation checker, which follows along as you recite. The audio is not recorded or kept, by the app or by the checker.
What we keep is the result: which pages you recited, the score, and the words Hifzy flagged, including the word it thought it heard (as text). If you mark a flagged word as read correctly, or a mistake Hifzy missed, we keep that too. We also send these corrections, as text only and without your name or email, to the checker so Hifzy can learn to listen better.
How we use it
- to set your Wird each day and keep your plan and progress across your devices;
- to send the reminders and emails you’ve chosen to get;
- to show your teachers your hifz, if you’re in a madrasah’s class;
- to reply to you, invite you from the waiting list, and help when something goes wrong;
- to fix problems and improve Hifz Daily and Hifzy.
We don’t use your information for anything else without asking you first.
Hifz Maktab and schools
A madrasah’s Maktab admin sets up its classes and teachers. When you join a class, by code or by an email invite from your teacher, the teachers of that class and the madrasah’s Maktab admins can see:
- your name and email;
- your plan, and today’s Wird and revision list;
- your streak and your last two weeks of Wird;
- how much you’ve memorised, and how much is Rooted or Nurturing;
- your Hifzy readings, with the score and the words Hifzy flagged.
They can set your plan while you’re in the class. Others in your class, and in your madrasah, can see your name on the leaderboard with your streak, the number of days you’ve closed your Wird and the number of ayat you’ve memorised this term.
Teachers can’t see your location, your settings or your emails. To leave a class, ask in the app and a teacher or Maktab admin approves it. Once you’ve left, the madrasah can no longer see your hifz, and you keep everything you’ve memorised.
The madrasah’s role
When a madrasah uses Hifz Maktab, it decides which students and teachers to add and what they use it for. We handle its students’ information on the madrasah’s behalf, only to run Hifz Daily and Hifz Maktab for it. The madrasah is responsible for telling parents that it uses Hifz Daily and, for students under 15, for authorising their use of it.
If you’re a student or a parent with a question about information in a madrasah’s class, you can ask the madrasah or us. We’ll work with the madrasah to answer it.
For teachers and Maktab admins, we keep your name, email, role and the classes you teach.
Children
Many people memorising the Quran are young, and we take extra care with children’s information.
- At home: a child under 15 should use Hifz Daily only with an account their parent or guardian has set up or agreed to.
- Through a madrasah: the madrasah authorises the student’s use and tells their parents, as above.
For every child, we:
- never show advertising, and never sell their information;
- never build profiles of them to use outside Hifz Daily or share with others;
- never use their identifiable information to train AI (the corrections that help Hifzy listen better carry no name or email);
- send only emails about using Hifz Daily, never marketing;
- never record their voice.
Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to see, correct or delete their child’s information, or to stop us collecting it.
Who helps us run it
We use a small number of trusted services. Each only gets what it needs to do its job, and we never sell your information to anyone.
| Service | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores your account and hifz, and handles signing in | Sydney, Australia |
| Vercel | Hosts the app, this website and our recitation checker, and sends notifications | Global network, based in the United States |
| Resend | Sends our emails | United States |
| Apple, Google and Mozilla | Deliver notifications to your device, through your browser | Various |
When you listen to a recitation, your device downloads the audio directly from EveryAyah and QuranicAudio, which see your device’s internet address as any website would. This website also loads its fonts from Google Fonts, and the introduction video plays from YouTube when you press play.
Some of these services are outside Australia, so your information may be stored or handled overseas. We choose services that protect information to a standard comparable to Australian law.
We may also share information if the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and hifz for as long as you have an account. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account, your hifz and your Hifzy results. If you registered interest but never made an account, we keep your details until you ask us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct: most of your information is in the app. You can change your name and plan there, and ask us for a copy of everything we hold about you.
- Delete: email us and we’ll delete your account and everything in it.
- Location, notifications and emails: each can be turned off, in the app or in your device’s settings, and every email has a way to stop them.
- Microphone: Hifzy only listens after you tap Start, and only with your device’s permission.
We’ll reply within 30 days, and complete a deletion within 30 days of confirming the request. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us first and we’ll try to put it right. If we can’t, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Keeping it safe
Your information travels encrypted, and each person can reach only their own hifz. A teacher can see a student’s hifz only while that student is in their class. Only a few of us can see the data, and only to run and support Hifz Daily. No system is perfectly secure, but if something ever goes wrong in a way that could harm you, we’ll tell you.
Changes to this policy
As Hifz Daily grows, this policy may change. We’ll update the date at the top, and if a change matters, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
